Hey there! Welcome to The Deep Dive — a wonderland for readers!

We’re Book Riot! We’ve been around for more than a decade, growing to become the largest independent editorial book site in North America, and home to a host of media, from podcasts to newsletters to original content, all designed around diverse readers and across all genres. Some of us were booksellers, teachers, and librarians. Some of us are authors and editors. All of us are into books.

Why subscribe?

If you love reading about books as much as you love reading books, the paid subscription is for you. This is where we share longer gems based on years of knowledge about books and publishing; draw from our collective experience as readers, teachers, librarians, booksellers, and professionals; and share research on lesser-known histories to illuminate and inspire book lovers.

You also won’t find these posts on our site or elsewhere online — while many of us got our start writing for the bookriot.com, our main focus is editing the site, content strategy, product management, and managing the business of Riot New Media Group. The Deep Dive gives us the space and resources to spend real time and thought on the bookish topics that interest us most, and that we think will be useful to people who love books.

How much to subscribe?

Only $5 a month! (Hot tip: if you select the annual subscription, it’s 17% cheaper than subscribing monthly).

And what am I getting?

Paid subscribers not only help support the work we do, which is often time-intensive and research heavy, but they get some great things out of the $5/month subscription:

  • Our long-form biweekly publication offering fascinating stories, informed takes, useful advice, and more, written by our bookish experts who want to improve and enhance your reading life — you won’t find this content anywhere else online!

  • Our monthly roundup of book and reading lifestyle recommendations, curated by power readers

Want to check it out before you commit? Your first two reads are on the house:

We’ll also be considering ways to bring our community of readers together. Become an early adopter and be the first to know when we add new features.

What do I get with a free subscription?

If you're on the fence or need some time before making the commitment, a free subscription will get you The Splash Pad, which rounds up recommended reading and bookish lifestyle goods, curated by power readers once a month. We’re here to share the books and things that bring us joy as readers!

I need a little more convincing to upgrade to paid…

Sure! Many of us here at Book Riot have been passionate about books and reading since childhood, and our editorial team has been writing on books and reading for a good chunk of our adult lives. We have so much to say and so much we want to explore on the subjects that matter most to readers, so we came up with The Deep Dive! This long-form publication features fascinating stories, informed takes, useful advice, and more from our experts in the world of books and reading.

We've gathered people who are excited to share helpful insights to enrich your reading experience and debunk misconceptions around books and reading. Some stories deserve a longer look and more nuance—we're here to deliver those stories to your inbox so you can read them at your leisure. For $5/month, you get insights and enthusiasm delivered to your inbox twice a month!
