Let's Talk: Your Summer Reading List
Assign us a must-read book and we'll pull together a community summer reading list!
Our first discussion thread happened! Book Riot Chief of Staff Rebecca started the conversation about books you’re loving lately that you just had to share, and asked y’all to share about books you’re looking for—it was a give a rec, take a rec situation. The comments threatened to destroy my TBR with even more books making it into my need-to-read category (Babel, I see you and I fear you). Compiling that TBR in my head put me in mind of a certain seasonally appropriate list and the thrill of excitement it similarly produced.
I was the high schooler who looked forward to summer reading lists. The moment I saw those stapled black and white photocopies emerge from the teacher’s desk, my heart quickened and my eyes focused on the text organized in a neat column. I distinctly remember that time I chose Dante’s The Divine Comedy because I thought it would be funny, and that other time I realized I had no idea where to get a Bible for AP Lit summer reading. I also remember sitting down with some great authors over the break and arriving on that first day of school feeling confident because I’d read more of the assigned books than required. What a nerd, what a glorious time.
It’s peak summertime and I’m feeling wistful for those lists, so I want to know what you’re reading. Maybe, together, we can come up with a summer reading list for the ages!
Here’s how it’ll happen: you give me the name of one or two books you’ve read and would recommend for a summer reading list—whether you read it this summer or during summers of yore—and I’ll pull together our very own community list (with some Book Riot staff picks to boot) and share it with y’all next week.
Click the button to leave a comment letting me know what your must-read summer recs are! I’ll be pulling the list together on Tuesday, so drop your selections in the comments by August 7th—if you’re a free subscriber, upgrade your subscription before the deadline to participate!
